NFL Draft Site's Mock NFL Draft (Updated 12 March 07)

1. Oakland: Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech
Al Davis suprises everybody, but it shouldn't be much of a suprise because he is the best player in this 2007 NFL Draft. QB Andrew Walter showed flashes last year and the Raiders want to give him a full year to see if he is the man. Randy Moss's days are numbered anyway, if they can't trade him, then 2007 will be his last year.

2. Detroit: JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU
The Lions signed OT George Foster and RB Tatum Bell in free agency, so the obvious pick would be quarterback. Russell is an incredible prospect and will finnaly give the Lions a young franchise quarterback.

3. Cleveland: Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin
The Browns signed RB Jamaal Lewis in free agency so they don't need a running back at this pick. The can get a good running back in round two. QB Derek Anderson and Charlie Frye will battle it out for the starting QB slot, and at least one of those guys could emerge as the QB of the future. Meanwhile, Joe Thomas will be protecting their blind side.

4. Tampa Bay: Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson
The Bucs have a lot of NFL Draft needs, but signing QB Jeff Garcia in free agency means they probably won't take Brady Quinn. They would have loved to have WR Calvin Johnson, but I think he will be long gone by the time the Bucs pick. Adams give the Bucs an elite pass rusher.

5. Arizona: Leon Hall, CB, Michigan
Hall is by far the top corner in this 2007 NFL Draft. Already battle tested in the Big Ten, Hall put on quite a show at the 2007 NFL Combine when he ran a 4.39 second 40 yard dash. Hall also had the fastest 3-cone drill at the entire combine with an incredible time of 6.50 seconds.

6. Washington: Alan Branch, DT, Michigan
The Skins need some young beef on their defensive line. Branch is a talented 320 pound run plugger, and he fills a need. DE Jamaal Anderson from Arkansas is also a possibility here.

7. Minnesota: Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame
The Vikings are desperate for a QB and might even trade up to get Quinn or Russell. They lost Brad Johnson to Dallas in free agency and Tarvaris Jackson doesn't look like he is talented enough to play QB in the NFL to me.

8. Houston: Marshawn Lynch, RB, California
Yes they got running back Ahman Green in free agency, but he is not looked at as a long term answer. I know this might suprise some of you that Lynch gets drafted ahead of Adrian Peterson, but Lynch has better hands and has been more durable. Didn't Edgerin James get drafted ahead of Ricky Williams for that same reason?

9. Miami: Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee
The Dolphins should have one heck of a defense with addition of Joey Porter. They do need a talented go-to wideout, and Meachem could be very special. Meachem is a big, tall, fast, young (under-classmen) receiver that has as much upside as any player in this draft. At the Combine Meachem measured in at 6' 2" 214 pounds and ran his 40 in 4.43 seconds, assuring him of a lofty 1st round NFL Draft grade

10. Atlanta: Laron Landry, FS, LSU
The Atlanta defensive secondary is one of their weakest positions and they get lucky with Laron landry. He is an excellent value here and is good enough to play free or strong safety. Landry is a very physically mature, well coached, experienced, battle hardened prospect.

11. San Fransico: Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas
Anderson is a great value here and is a terror rushing the passer off the edge. Only a junior, the 6' 4" 265 pound Anderson has been very productive on the field, he accumulated 19.5 tackles for a loss and 13.5 sacks last year.

12. Buffalo: Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma
The Bills lost Willis McGahee, and the shocking slip of Adrian Peterson makes this an obvious pick. If Peterson stays healthy, he might bring back images of O.J. Simpson back to Buffalo.

13. St. Louis: Patrick Willis, ILB, Mississippi
The Rams have been trying to improve their defense for years. Willis will definitely improve any defense, he is good enough to be the defensive rookie of the year in 2007, a sideline to sideline tackling machine. This is a great pick for the Rams. Their receiving corps is getting kind of old also, so Bowe, Ginn or Garrett could also be a possibility. Willis had a great performance at the 2007 NFL Scouting Combine, he ran his 40 in 4.49 seconds, had a 39" vertical jump and a 9' 11" broad jump.

14. Carolina: Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU
Bowe had a great season, a strong Senior Bowl, but only an average Combine, he measured in at 6' 2" 222 pounds and ran a 4.52 second 40 yard dash. Bowe is a big, tall, physical receiver that will give Jake Delhomme an excellent target for years to come. Bowe would be a nice compliment to Steve Smith.

15. Pittsburgh: Jarvis Moss, DE, Florida
The Steelers could use a linebacker, So Timmons or Posluszny are strong possibilities. Moss is a talented junior, and at 6' 5" 250 pounds could play end or linebacker.

16. Green Bay: Chris Houston, CB, Arkansas
This might suprise some of you, since Houston is only a junior, he wasn't as highly rated as some of the seniors, but at the 2007 NFL Combine he displayed top notch man on man cover skills and then went on to run a blazing 4.34 second 40 yard dash.

17. Jacksonville: Reggie Nelson, S, Florida
Nelson is a talented junior safety that is excellent playing centerfield in the defensive secondary. He looks fast on the field and knows how to get the ball. Fundementaly sound he will be a good fit in Jacksonville, a solid replacement for deon Grant who they lost in free agency. Didn't have a great 40 time at the combine, but reportedly ran around 4.40 during his pro day.

18. Cincinnati: Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville
Okoye is one of my favorite player in this draft. The lightening quick Okoye is a good fit for their speedy defense. Okoye is only 19 years old and has as much upside as anyone in this draft. He reminds me of the Bears' Pro Bowl defensive tackle Tommy Harris.

19. Tennessee: Ted Ginn Jr, WR, Ohio State
With Devin Hester's success in the NFL as a return man, the Titans will be licking their lips to get Ginn. Believe it or not, Ginn might even better than Hester, and unlike Hester, can actually play another position besides returner. Ginn isn't real experienced as a wideout, but gets better every year and in time could be special. WR Dwayne Jarret might be an option here also. A great weapon for Vince Young.

20. NY Giants: Lawrence Timmons, LB, Florida State
The Giants lost half their linebacker corps, so this is a huge need. This is a nice pick if you are a Giants fan, Timmons is a young, talented 6' 2" 230 pound junior that hits like a ton of bricks. He took over for Ernie Sims and the Seminoles didn't miss a beat, he recorded 18 tackles for loss and 5 sacks.

21. Denver: Michael Griffin, SS, Texas
Another good value, Griffin is a very experienced defensive back that has been playing in the national spotlight for three years. He could play strong or free safety and John Lynch isn't getting any younger. Yes they lost CB Darrent Williams, but they were deep there already with talented CB Domonique Foxworth on the roster.

22. Dallas: DeMarcus (Tank) Tyler, NT, NC State
Dallas wants to stick with the 3-4 defense under Coach Wade Phillips, but they don't have the nose guards for it. Jason Ferguson is the only nose on the roster and he is getting old. Tyler is big and quick enough to be a star in the NFL. If either Safeties Michael griffin or Reggie Nelson were still available at this spot, Dallas wouldn't hesitate to grab either one however.

23. Kansas City: Eric Wright, CB, UNLV
A late run on speedy corners lets Wright fall down to the Chiefs. They need a defensive tackle but there isn't one available at this spot. Wright is a supreme athlete, with decent size at 5' 10" 192 pounds, but his speed is breathtaking, he ran a 4.33 second 40 yard dash at the 2007 NFL Combine.

24. New England: Eric Weddle, S, Utah
A blue collar pick here, Weddle was hugely productive on the football field and opened up some eyes at the NFL Combine, he measured in at 5' 11" 203 pounds and ran a 4.52 40 yard dash, but his 3-cone time of 6.78 seconds was fantastic.

25. NY Jets: Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska
A 6' 5" 292 pound defensive end that can really run. He reminds me a lot of DE Patrick Kerney, whom the Falcons just lost to the Seahawks. Defensive Ends Shaun Ellis and Oelhoffen are getting old and could use some help.

26. Philadelphia: Charles Johnson, DE Georgia
Quentin Moses was supposed to be the top defensive end out of Georgia, but he struggled this year, where as his team mate, junior Charles Johnson excelled. Johnson has nice size at 6' 2" 280 pounds and can seamlessly drop back into coverage when needed. Johnson is a hustler, recording 19 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks and knocking down an incredible 10 passes.

27. New Orleans: Marcus McCauley, CB, Fresno State
This is a definate need pick and McCauley is a super talented corner. Scouts were down on him after a mediocre senior season, but at the 2007 NFL Combine he displayed NFL caliber athleticism and speed. He ran a 4.36 second 40 yard dash which was one of the fastest times.

28. New England: Darrelle Revis, CB, Pittsburgh
Revis chose not to run at the Combine, but he is expected to work out just fine at his schools pro day. The Pats have been major players in free agency and have seemingly filled most of their holes. Ellis Hobbs has been battling injuries so Revis could be successful teamed up with Ansante Samuel.

29. Baltimore: Ryan Kalil, C, USC
Willis McGahee is the new running back in baltimore and he gets better interior blocking with Kalil, who has been moving up the draft boards after an excellent Senior Bowl and combine. He is a little light at barely 299 pounds, and will have to bulk up a little to be successful in the NFL, but he plays with a mean streak and uses great leverage and angles. He can also play guard and is extremely mobile, he can get out and neutralize the middle linebacker on running plays.

30. San Diego: Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC
This is the steal of the draft so far, Jarrett is a 6' 4" 210 pound touchdown machine. I think Jarrett is a better talent than Keyshawn Johnson, who was the top pick in the 1996 NFL Draft. The Chiefs really need a left tackle but there aren't any left on the draft boards worthy of this lofty draft spot.

31. Chicago: Levi Brown, OT, Penn State
Levi Brown had a great Senior Bowl, but only an average Combine, he is a huge, talented left tackle and has pro bowl potential. The Bears could go corner here, or they could draft Michigan State's QB Drew Stanton if they aren't sure about Rex Grossman.

32. Indianapolis: Brian Leonard, RB/FB/, Rutgers
This might suprise a lot of you, but if you stop and think it really makes sense. The Colts lost Dominic Roads to free agency and Joseph Addai isn't big enough to carry the full load. Leonard would be the perfect fit in the Colts offense. He can run the ball with his 4.50 speed, block like a fullback at 6' 1" 230 pounds, split out wide as an H-back and catch the ball on screens and flair passes. he is so versitle Payton manning would have fun using him.

You might be right, but both teams really need a young QB to bring along. There is no way the Raiders pass on Russell, but I am not so sure about Quinn, I think he is a little over rated.
The Bears might move down, but I can't see them moving up....it costs to much and the Bears are to thrifty.

Oh, nice Bears Blog!

Ginn Jr. is a decent pick but I don't really see the Bills going for a WR when the need a ILB with Fletcher most likely gone, a CB with Clements all but gone, a DT to stop the run cause we can't do that at all, or an OT to help protect J.P. [or maybe a RB due to mcgahee trying to be selfish with the worst agent in the NFL and making comments that make you believe he doesn't want to be here]...why wouldn't Levi Brown, Patrick Willis, Darrelle Revis, Quinn Pitcock, Paul Poluszny, Sam Baker, or Justin Blalock be a better pick?

Robert Bryant said...

Thanks for the comments. Yea you are probably, right, they have Lee Avans, so Ginn probably is not needed. I will fix it next time I do an update.

Anonymous said...

The Patriots wont take a guard with that first pick...they have two young ones that are good now...they will take a LB or CB

Robert Bryant said...

Thanks for the input, I will keep that in mind when I do my next update. So far I have mainly focused on best player available, but it sounds like I am going to have to insert some more linebackers.

Do you really think Leon Hall will make it past 3 depleted/agin secondaries in Washington, Miami and San Fran?

Robert Bryant said...

I do, I think those teams have multiple needs and there are better players available than Hall at those spots. I think Jarrett, Landry and Samardja are much better prospects.

Moerollins31 said...

I really think the Bills will resign Kelsay [not needing to draft a high DE]as well as try to get Scott DT from the Bears and look for an Offensive Lineman in Free Agency ...i think we are really going to have to target a MLB or CB for the first pick ...i wish we can trade Mcgahee for a 1st round pick and maybe target both positions in the 1st round

Check your draft order ... the Packers don't draft 15th do they?

Cleveland has to be salivating at Calvin Johnson being there at #3. Team him up with Braylon Edwards and they might turn even Charlie Frye into a decent quarterback.

From my Detroit fan sources, they are thinking Detroit goes with Joe Thomas at #2. There are good reasons to think this too. This is a make-or-break year for Marinelli/Millen. If the team doesn't improve, they're toast. Also, if they draft a quarterback at that spot, they will be expected to play that quarterback unless Kitna blows the socks off the NFL (that ain't happening). In other words, Marinelli/Millen would be putting their fate in the hands of a rookie quarterback. Even Matt Millen's not that stupid...ok, maybe they will take Quinn. ;)

Hi i'm Max and also a huge Boys fan u think theres a chance we got a WR or Peterson in the first round?

Robert Bryant said...

Peterson will be long gone for the Cowboys and with young Austin Miles and Sam Hurd waiting in the wings I don't think the Boys nab a wideout. But you never know, this is a great year for wide receivers and a top dog like Dwayne Bowe could fall down to Dallas.

Gary Gross said...

There's no way that the Vikings take AP & pass on Gaines Adams. The Vikings biggest weakness defensively was their pass rush.

Also, you're killing me with all these WR's going in the first round. We need someone to drop to the top of the 2nd round because we need WR's bad.

Robert Bryant said...

The Vikings had a great defense with no offense. The Vikings already have two first round Defensive Ends on their roster: Kenechi Udeze and Erasmus James.

PMill522 said...

I'm going to have to disagree with the Packers selecting levi brown...they have a solid young offensive line who played well as rookies...they will not waste a pick on another so i expect them to take marshawn lynch, a reciever or a defensive back...if they do not take lynch in the first round they should definately take michael bush in the 2nd

Goose said...

As a hardcore Browns fan following every move they make in the offseason, I have to let you know that I think there's absolutely no chance in hell they pick Calvin Johnson. No chance. WR is way, way, way down the chart in the many needs for the Browns, and a pick will be made out of who's left of Joe Thomas, Adrian Peterson and Brady Quinn barring someone skyrocketing up the boards. Braylon Edwards might not have looked like a savior yet, but the Browns aren't the Lions.

No way that Pittsburgh takes a Free Safety Polamalu will be the strong and Anthony Smith who they drafted last year looked good and will be the free. Pittsburgh will either look to put much needed depth on the OL or take a DL/LB.

Robert Bryant said...

Good point Anonymous...I gave Pittsburg Jarvis Moss.

I have no doubt Amobi Okoye is a great prospect in this draft at DT position, but we have already 4 young DT's in our roster (Kevin Vickerson, Manny Wright, Fred Evans and Rodrique Wright) drafted in '05 and '06, and I think we have more pressing needs in OL and OLB, I think we should trade down (Denver and Dallas are always willing to trade up) and still be able to pick good players to fill holes with good prospects like OT Joe Staley from Central Michigan, OLB Lawrence Timmons from FSU, or even a good S like Michael Griffin from Texas or Dwayne Bowe from LSU, cause we need help in secondary and WR also.

I am a Bears fan and while I am no Grossman backer there isnt the slightest chance the Bears take a QB on the first day, let alone the first round. I have e-mailed two noted Chicago sporters writers who cover the Bears asking if there was any shot of taking a QB in the draft like Smith and Stanton and they said no chance at all.

The team is not going to give up on Grossman after going to the Super Bowl, they spent alot of money to bring in Griese, they arent going to just ditch Orton-their current 3rd string who won 10 games last year. No way the Bears draft Drew Stanton.

Robert Bryant said...

The Bears went to the Super Bowl in spite of Grossman not because of him, he stinks. Griese isn't the future and Orton? well that's a big, big maybe.

Anonymous said...

im not sure why everyone thinkgs the jags would take a lb? they have there starting 3 already set in daryl smith, mike peterson and clint ingram. griesen, hawkins and tony gilbert if hes resigned add depth. i think a speed rushing de or a wr with speed like ginn would more likely be the pick

Anonymous said...

NO WAY the Vikings are gunna choose a running back. With Chester Taylor signed to a big contract not going to happen. Vikings are more opted to select Gaines Adams or A reciever possibly Dwayne Jarrett or Robert Meachem.

Anonymous said...

The Giants need a wide receiver no understands that. How many times did they settle for field goals and bad 3rd and goal plays in side the 20 burress is good toomer is old what the hell. -Dwayne Jarrett

Anonymous said...

There is no way the bears will draft a quarterback in the first round if at all. This is a super bowl team and a rookie quarterback cannot lead them there. Grossman has already shown that he can and he will most likely improve. A rookie quarter back wouldn't do any better than grossman did

Hey Rob thanx for visiting my site. It's nice that you appreciate my blog. I have to say that your Mock Draft is pretty nice. I only have two questions about it. 1) Do you really think Ted Ginn is going to drop that low at 17? There is no question in my mind that he is better than Dwayne Jarrett. 2) Paul Poslouszny is definitely not a top 20 pick. Although I feel that he is a great player, Mel Kiper did not even have him in the first round. Overall, I pretty much agree with you though it's a spectacular set up. Email me back if your interested in setting up links on each others blogs so people can see the other's blogs. It would help me a great deal. Im actually pretty psyched over this years draft. It could be one to remember.

Anonymous said...

No way the Falcons pick a DE if Kerney re-signs. Not with the glaring holes at DB, OL and WR. They might spend a 3rd rounder on a developmental pick, but not the first rounder.

Anonymous said...

Look out for David Ball---He is the best WR in the draft, but i don't see him any where--you'll see.

Anonymous said...

David Ball?!?!!?

Okay, I get it. Minnesota has two first round DE's on their roster. Udeze started all 16 games with an astounding 0 sacks while James was hurt. Not to mention our pass defense was ranked 31st against the pass...mostly because there was no pressure on the quarterback. I mean you can't expect cornerbacks to cover their guy for 20 seconds, that is just absurd...

and just to inform you on the stats of Chester Taylor, in case you forgot:
303 att, 1216 yds 6TDs

The moral of this post in that there in no way in ---- that the Vikes are picking AP...

Anonymous said...

I have been following the draft for about seven years now i'm currently 19. I feel i know a bit and i think this might be a stretch but Paul Poslouszny has been slipping in most mock drafts. I'm a big pittsburgh fan and i feel he would anchor an aging steelers linebacker core and with a potential move to the 4-3 he would be the ideal weak side line backer and a great middle linebacker in the 3-4 protected by the big lugs of the pittsburg d-line he would be the Ray Lewis or Dan Morgan of the steelers (both when healthy capable of 12 plus tackles a game) He has the work ethic and natuaral skills to be a star in Dick LeBeau's zone blitz defensqe and would compliment James Farrior Nicely

hey what about ikaika alamafrancis boy he isthe best

fyi- The NYJ own Washington's 2nd rounder.

Anonymous said...

You have eric wirhgt drafted by the pats in the second round but do you think that they will take this chance on someone who been on off field trouble, i dont think bill would put up with that

ZCapitan said...

I think Ted Ginn is going to be a solid receiver, but to call him a better return man than Devin Hester? Now you are just talking crazy. Ginn may have returned some kicks and punts and he is better than average, but Hester made you kick away from him. He makes the other team fear kicking to him and changes the entire strategy. Even at the U that happened. People still kicked the ball to Ginn because they new they could contain him. But totally agree about at least Ginn gives you other skills. You see how bad Hester was in the proBowl?

ZCapitan said...

I think you said that the Jets needed a Left Tackle. Ummm, who did they draft last year with their top 5 pick? And what position does he play? I don't think O-Line is a position of need for the Jets. They will most likely look at RB first and then look towards the Defensive side of the ball.

Azmir Ismail said...

What I have read is that the Skins are focusing on the D-line. Gaines Adams is the current fav.

Anonymous said...

Sorry ROB, Looking from the outside it could seem Detroit might take QUINN. But its not going to happen. # 1 on their list is to trade down.
2nd either RB Peterson or OT Joe Thomas. No QB or WR on thier radar

Anonymous said...

Call me crazy but i dont see the Cowboys passing on Levi Brown if he even falls to their spot. I know texas local had a great combine, but a good tackle is hard to find and Flozell Adams isnt getting any younger or mobile for that matter:D

Anonymous said...

I think if Oakland and Detriot both pass on Calvin Johnson I could see the MINN putting together a deal with CLE to get him. CLE could likely move down to pick #7 and still draft A Peterson since TB, ARZ, and WASH are all unlikely to draft RB. I know a lot of people are saying QB is what the Vikings need, but I don't think Childress is ready to give up on Jackson yet. He saw somehting he likes in him or he wouldn't have moved up in the draft last year to get him. Jackson struggled when he started at the end of the season last year but that was also do to dropped balls. I think Childress is more likely to focus on the weapons around Jackson before he gives up on him so quickly.

I am glad to see someone with the guts to push Marshawn Lynch up the draft board. If I see another #16 to Green Bay I'll throw up.

Having watched Lynch the past two years at Cal live and up close it is evident to me he has the skills to be an impact NFL rusher. As you point out he has AP in durability and is a better receiver as well. Since West Coast football gets lesser pub people don't even know Lynch played a few games on TWO injured ankles this season.

Anonymous said...

no way Green Bay is drafting Chris Houston... this guy has is one of those "potential picks" and has Ahmad Carroll written all over him.

The Chiefs will draft a WR first round, DT second round, CB or OL third. I'm gonna go anynomous because I don't want to argue because I know more about the Chiefs than you could ever imagine.

And why would the Broncos pass on Adam Carriker? I like Griffen if the top 4 DE are gone by pick 21, but if Moss or Carriker are still there, Denver will take them.

Anonymous said...

I think you're right that the Colts' pick will be a shocker to most draftnicks, but a RB it will not be. There are too many good complimentary backs later in the draft - Caulley of UConn and Colman of Hampton to name two. Look for the Colts to take a WR, since they have no one for the slot and Harrison is 35. The Colts build almost exclusively through the draft and wide receivers take a few years to develop in the NFL - so it's not to early to draft a replacement for Harrison.

Anonymous said...

i don't think the browns are ready to use that high of a pick on an o line man. we can't afford o pass on a franchise qb, but braylon edwards is so inconsistant i like charles johnson. edwards in college never had big games against o-state, and o-state produces great corners, especially in is erra. ntrade edwards he' not the big ply guy we need!!!! get a lineman for him or in second round!!!

well, i really dont think that raiders are gonna pick CJ. i think they're gonna go for JaMarcus. And i think the cards gonna trade with the lions to make sure they get Joe Thomas on #2. It's gonna be very exciting. i cant wait to see what al davis will do =)
