All the underclassmen haven't yet declared and we haven't had the Senior Bowl or the NFL Scouting Combine, so there will be some changes before the draft on Thursday 22 April at 7:00 PM (Eastern). However, with the regular NFL season over and many underclassmen already declaring we have a pretty good glimpse of what's to come.
Please comment on our mock and give us your suggestions, but please remember that while team needs are important, it's always the best policy to take the best available player. Reaching for a player to fill a team need is one of the biggest mistakes NFL teams make.
Here are a few players that just missed the first round. They have first round talent, I just couldn't fit them in. Many will eventually be first round selections, but many will likely be second round steals in the 2010 NFL Draft.
1. OT Trent Williams, Oklahoma
2. TE Aaron Hernandez, Florida (JR)
3. LB Navorro Bowman, Penn State (JR)
4. LB Ricky Sapp, Clemson
5. WR Damian Williams, USC (JR)
6. DT Arthur Jones, Syracuse
7. CB/S Donovan Warren, Michigan (JR)
8. OG Jon Asamoah, Illinois
9. CB Trevard Lindley, Kentucky
10. ILB Daryl Washington, TCU
11. QB Tony Pike, Cincinnati
12. RB/WR Dexter MCluster, Ole Miss
13. WR Brandon LaFell, LSU
14. RB Toby Gerhart, Stanford
15. TE Ed Dickson, Oregon

Good job overall, but as a Buffalo fan I am certain you missed the mark...the Bills need QB, OL, DL, LB, and TE......I'll bet a million bucks they don't draft a cornerback 1st.....and I would not even expect them to take a CB in the entire draft.
Thanks again for your mock draft.
Broncos getting a safty yeahh rout why would they pass up renaldo mcclain with there 11th pick they would get a linebacker that they need they don't need a safty they got a young safty darcel mcbath
The Broncos: Rolando McClain is excellent and would be a good fit, but I don't think McBath isn't anything special.
I'm OK with the Browns going with Bryant--they need to go offense for a QB, RT or WR. Depending on what they do in Free Agency--I'm OK with Bryant, Sam Bradford (probably my first choice) or Anthony Davis at Right Tackle....
cardinals need left tackle they have none for next year! they have been drafting olb/de will draft another in 2 rd then a cemter 3rd round and another tackle and mlb in some order watch game sunday if you think they have a left tackle
Robert...very solid update to the mock draft.
Spiller will be one of the more interesting players to follow...there are a # of teams that could jump out and snag him. What other teams do you think will give Spiller a look?
The 49ers sure would have some weapons with Crabtree, Gore, V Davis, and Spiller (in a Harvin type role)...too bad A. Smith won't even come close to leveraging that talent :(
A pick that caught my attention was Gilyard to the Saints. What was the reasoning behind selecting a WR?
The Saints defense has really been exposed as of late. Right now I would rank the Saints needs as follows: (in order)
1) DT
2) OLB
3) CB
4) DE
Cambell, Spikes, or Kindle over Graham please. Gandy is as good as gone, Spikes if Dansby leaves which is highly probable. And Kindle to rush the passer.
Steeler fan here. I'd like to see the Steelers land either Cody to replace Hampton or McClain as an understudy to Farrior for a year. OLB in the first doesn't make a whole lot of sense with Woodley, Harrison, and Timmons (in case of injury) already here. Perhaps in the later rounds.
Not to mention the voids about to be created in the secondary this offseason. D. Townsend (retirement), R. Clark (FA), and T. Carter (?) are all probably headed out of town.
DetroitCharger here. Interesting pick for us at #30, Golden Tate. I think he would be a complete luxury for us. Our current receiving corps is very talented, but we don't have a deep-threat WR. We do have bigger needs at RT (replace Clary, please please!) and on the DL where J. Williams is getting older, and the other DLinemen did nothing but get pushed off the ball this year. What about LT's replacement?
The Texans will be looking to add depth on both defensive and offensive lines. So I see either a guard or dt being taken in the first round. Although I think they need another rb.
I (also a Pittsburgh fan) personally believe that the steelers are going to try to get Taylor Mays. He is a hard hitting young playmaker. If not we might sweep up Joe Harden from Florida if they drop low enough to still be on the board. If not then look for the steelers to take a young, smart cornerback or a rock hard lineman. Maybe pick a linebacker or Defensive lineman in the 2-4 th round (due to having ziggy hood as a young D lineman and Farrior still has another year left in him).
i hate to DOG you but i think you are way off. miami doesnt need a de , they have more than plenty, nt, wr,ilb,ss/fsand i know sporano, a o- line coach is always looking to upgrade
I also think you are way off on Joe Haden to the Bills at 9, We are set in the secondary, that's something we don;t need at all. We have taken so many DBs, the last few years.
Think OT,QB,DT,LB
I couldn't see the Bills take anything else at 9
Why in the world would San Francisco draft a running back in the first round? They have Frank Gore already and could use a 2nd or 3rd round pick for an alternating back.
Tebow will be a first round pick. I also think he will be a HIGH first round pick. My reason...Have you ever watched a gator game when they have NFL announcers do the game on FOX/CBS. The announcers DROOL over Tebow and brag about how they got to meet him before the game. Throughout the whole game they just can't stop talking about him and they can't stop thinking about him while they are commentating. They almost sound like 13 year old girls who just met Justin Timberlake. I guarantee you that is the exact same way GM's and NFL Owners are going to react after they sit down and interview him. The team's scouts are going to say NO NO NO! But the owner's/GM's are going to have such man crushes on him that they just won't be able to resist. I predict him as a top 10.
i think the rams will find it hard to pass up a qb here or at least some offensive weapon they must be having nostalgia of the greatest show on turf with that pitiful one dimensional offensive they have and i just feel like after taking chris long with the second pick two years ago there going to go with a more explosive pick and think offense but ive seen suh as number 1 on pretty much every board so i know where your coming from and hes probly the best pick he is a haus and i sincerely doubt tebow will be a first round draft pick and i will chop off my cock if hes top ten as charismatic as he is he simply just doesnt fit the nfl prototype and no matter how good your numbers if you dont fit the mold your not getting picked just ask colt mccoy or graham harrel who had even better throwing numbers then tebow and were even more conventional pocket passers
Not sure where you get the idea the Chargers would use their first pick to draft a #3 or 4 receiver. That doesn't make any sense...it's like blowing your tax refund on a new spare tire when the one you already have is just fine!
As a Detroit fan, I think they are in a win/win position at number 2. If Suh is there, we fans/coaches would love to have him. However, if he is not, I think the Lions will be very content with Okung. It will not be a guarantee that St. Louis will take Suh. The last couple years with Detroit and Miami had the number 1 overall picks. They wanted to Sign the player that was willing to sign before the draft started. Many mock drafts have a Gerald McCoy at #2 if the Rams take Suh but if you are a Detroit fan like I me, all you heard at last years draft from GM Mayhew and Coach Schwartz is that they wanted the best available player at that position. McCoy is a very good # 2 ranked at that position. As an O-lineman that would make Okung the number 1 rated O-lineman. As I write this though, it is 3 months before the draft and a lot can change with player rankings at combines.
If Cody is there the Texans will draft him.
Thanks for all the excellent comments, I will take them all under advice when I do my next update. I don't focus as much on team needs as most do however, usually that is a mistake, needs change like the wind. I believe in taking the best player even if he isn't a big need.
how do you have the 49ers selecting a running back and not an OT in the first round? The team's biggest need is at right tackle. Yeah they need a running back but only for depth. He could be a great guy to have in the return game, but i would use my first pick on an OT. Then the 2nd first rounder maybe a defensive back or a pass rusher. The return man/running back can wait for the 2nd or 3rd round. Frank Gore is one of the best in the league and running back depth is not great but with glen coffee it creates a great duo for that spot. Only need there is a 3rd stringer.
Look there is a lot more to the draft than the first round, teams fill needs all through the draft, yes the niners need a right tackle, but outside of Okung, there might not be a good value from that position where the niners pick. Right tackles can easily be drafted in rounds 2-6. The Cowboys drafted Doug Free in the 6th round a couple years ago and he played very good at right tackle after Columbo got injured.
Nice work on the draft. Especially this early. I'm a lifelong Packer fan and I would love to get Best at the end of the first round. If a good CB, LB, or OL slides, I could see them going there as well. My wife is a Browns fan, so i also follow them. I would think Bryant would be a waste of a pick for their franchise (at least this year). He's a heck of a talent, but they have so many other needs. I would see Hayden, Mays, or Berry (if he falls that far). The number one option should be trading down to get more picks. They need a lot of help. Again, great job on the draft.
The Niners won't take Spiller. Hopefully, he's there and they can trade down for more picks. Is it just me or is this draft stacked?!
The Texans wont take a OLB 2 years in a row in the 1st round. We need help in the secondary the most so this isnt even close.
it is a dumb mock draft.
why Houston use a 1st pick for a back up lb.
it is silly
Nobody realizes the potential that Toby Gerhart has.....His combines will show you that he is better than Ingram, Spiller, and the rest!!!! This guy is a pro in everything he does....you'll see...
Oh I agree, all NFL teams will be looking at how fast Gerhart runs at the scouting combine, and I don't know how he will run, but he has explosive "Football speed" and will be an excellent addition to any NFL team.
Ok I know hes not the best QB but Tim Tebow has to be in the first round because of his impression he made at florida
I just want to say to the guy that said Tim Tebow will be a first round pick that he is an idiot. Yes, he was a very good college quarterback, but that will not translate over to the pros. For one, he is left handed which will cause offensive coordinaters to change their entire gameplan and rotate around the entire offensive scheme. And two, he is not even in the top 10 for best NFL eligible quarterbacks in this draft. His arm strength is at best average and is accuracy is good but not the best. The only reason he was a heisman candidate was because of his ability to run and the team that he had around him. If he is drafted, it wont be until about the 5th round, and if he plays it will only be as a tight end/fullback like Chris Cooley. He has good speed and most likely has good enough hands for this. But no way will anybody be drafting him in the first round to play quarterback unless his name is Al Davis.
not in a million years lmfao will buffalo take a corner with its first pick. and were is jevan snead are you serious who put this mock draft together. buffalo will take either sam bradford if he last that long or jevan snead hands down, buffalo will take a quarterback with our first pick.
Just curious...why do you think the Jets will pass on Golden Tate and take Cody? Jenkins will be back next year, so I don't see an immediate need for a NT, but there is a need at WR.
I don't see the Steelers drafting a LB at #18, I would hope they're looking at CB- Patrick Johnson from FSU or a SS to back-up Troy.
Nice job!! At least you have the non-playoff order correct. Many sites dont. The combine will tell a lot but at this point I dont see McClain falling all the way to 15th. The Steelers should take D but another LB in Hughes? He is an exceptional player but not with Woodley, Harrison, Timmons etc. Guys like LB Kindle and OT Campbell likely wont fall that far. Saints with another WR?!! NO WAY!!!
I dont see the cowboys drafting an offensive linemen and then working him into the starting line unless it was a jake long caliber player. if u see golden tate dropping this low i see the cowboys drafing him after losing out on players in past drafts like randy moss and desean jackson so i wouldnt let another receiver who can make plays slip up especially with crayton aging he would be a great 3rd wr behind williams and austin.
Yeah....Great mock draft. I see what you are saying about draft value. Everyone sayin someone should get this position, well there may not be a player thats worth shedding $8,000,000 over the next 4-6 yrs. Usually GMs and Coaches take the best valued player, see if they can squeeze them in their system or if there is a need. Or the team decides to trade down or may trade there 1st and 2nd rd pick and a few players to get someone who was drafted before. I agree with this draft to a fault. I may change a few picks (Jets, Bills, and Texans), but thats about it.
Browns need Safety, take Taylor Mays or best DE for a 3-4.
Dude...why would the saints draft a WR in the 1st round? They just resigned devery and colston. Meach is under contract for 2 more years. Shanle and Fujita are likely both done after this season. Obvious pick is LB or OL. Thanks for the effort...just sayin.
If CJ Spiller run a 4.2 at the combine he will be in the top ten and maybe 6TH to Seattle.
Thanks guys for all of your comments and suggestions and many of you are "Spot on". I plan on doing another update probably Tuesday 12 January 2010 and I will take all of your recommendations under consideration. There has been some risers and fallers since I did my last update, like Rolando Mcclain (riser) and Derrick Morgan (faller). And how about Iowa DE Adrian Clayborn? is he a beast or what? I think he is returning to Iowa next year, but I could see him as a 1st rounder in the 2011 NFL Draft....Keep the comments coming!
Nice draft, but you should learn a little more about teams before plugging in a name to the slot. As a Steelers fan, I know there will not be a LB taken in round 1 unless it's Spikes from FL to play inside, and I'm not sold on him either. Think more along the lines of:
Dan Williams, DT
Anthony Davis, OT
Why would the Chargers draft a receiver? They have too many players that can catch, hence the release of Chris Chambers earlier this season.
2 Comments:
Pittsburgh: They might as well draft another quarterback if they don't at least get 3 OL in draft and FA. If they pick best athlete available, then pick the best orthopedic available for the QB!
Philadelphia: Andy Reid likes big fat guys. DE is biggest offseason priority along with OL due to potential loss of both Andrew brothers due to mental and physical problems. No way it is a LB 0% chance!
WTF, the Packers taking a running back??? NOT! How can anyone put a mock draft together without realizing they need OT.
I cannot stress enough that the draft has little to do with need. You have to take the best player at the spot. If you reach for a payer based off need you will ultimately fail. Just ask the Chiefs who reached last year for Tyson Jackson.
As a Packers fan I have been saying Jahvid Best would be a great pick for awhile, love the pick.
your mock is questionable in the second half. With Gore and Coffee, SF has greater needs and shouldnt take a RB. SD does not need another buster davis and will not go with a WR. Same goes for the SAINTS.
I know Ryan Grant isn't flashy, but once his mediocre line got it together, he posted another 1,200 yards. Green Bay would would have a hard time taking even a stud rb that doesn't exist in this draft. Consider the age at both cb and ot and Ted Thompson's habit of taking best player available.
The Packers need OL then Secondary help first before a RB.
Look for them to take either Bruce Campbell or Brian Bulaga or Charles Brown depending on who falls to them.
highly doubtful that the browns choose a WR. Defense is top priority.
Houston Texans fan here. Our defensive line and linebackers are pretty solid. We definitely need a running back.
The Steeler pick is absurd. The last thing they need right now is an OLB. Now I know that teams don't always pick according to need, but their holes at CB, OL, ILB, and S are such that an OLB mock pick seems horrid.
the bengals need a wr,so i dont understand the te in the first round unless they really feel that coffman wont cut it as a te..it would be awesome to get gillyard. Im also surprised by pike projected to go a possible 1st round, i figured he was a late pick like a 5th round,he just seems to me more of a collage qb. I cant wait for the draft since the bengals got kicked out of the playoffs
I definitely agree with my fellow Bills fan they would be very unintelligent to draft a corner when they don't have a QB or OL. I am no expert at this stuff but I think that is easy to see. Although the Bills organization does not always make the most intelligent decisions anyway, its hard to guess what they will do.
i highly doubt that dez bryant will be drafted as high.and i agree with jimmy clausen and sam bradfrod being top 10 picks but in reverse order
Overall looks like a pretty good mock draft. First one ive seen that agrees with me that Brandon Spikes will be headed to my Philadelphia Eagles. Only disappoinment is that i dont see Tim Tebow anywhere. He's headed to Jacksonville. Thats a promise by the way!
Very Good overall draft! I am glad it os updated, i see many on-line that haven't been updated since mid-december.
I think Suh has to be the overall first pick, i don't like the Browns pick though, Cleve has been burnt with talent offensive players(Coach/Edwards/Quinn) I look for Holmgren to beef up that defense in a heavy run oriented division.
Too many first rd offensive talents are busts!
Saints and Chargers taking WRs? Def need depth there, but def not first round needs. Same with the Steelers taking an OLB. If the Steelers have any defensive 1st round needs, it's at DB. Frank Gore is a beast, so I don't see why they'd take a RB that early, regardless of the two-back trend. Before Shanahan went to Wash, I'd have disagreed with the Clausen pick, but it's more likely than not that Mike will want a fresh start at QB. Everything else looks good to me
I think that the Patriots need an explosive running back that could take the pressure off Brady, maybe someone like a Javihd Best from Cal. They are already really young on defense and i think need a deffensive player who has already proved themselves in the league rather than drafting another defensive player.
Good overrall but there is no way that the Ravens don't take a receiver first round. The Ravens have 3 wr that are free agents next year and Derrick Mason will probably retire. If both Bryant and Benn are gone by the Ravens pick than I would assume they would pick up Damian Williams.
From where the Ravens are sitting there might be value for them to get a receiver in the 2nd round.
The Baltimore Ravens should draft Golden Tate from Notre Dame cause they need depth at reciver,or a MLB Brandon Graham from Michigan so he can learn from Ray Lewis why he is still in the NFL.
Don't forget that Spiller has an injury history which stops the Chris Johnson comparison. Also, don't think that Dwyer from GT can't climb into the first round with a great combo of size/speed.
well you have misguided info. The raiders don't have a first round pick because they gave it to new england for seymour.
You are the one misguided braniac, the trade for Richard Seymour was for the 2011 NFL Draft.
I would love to see Taylor Mays fall to Philadelphia. He would fit perfectly with the blitz-heavy Eagles. Fight On!
The Packers will be drafting a DB or Olineman before taking a RB. It appears that you didn't invest in much thought before making many of these Round-1 predictions.
I like your thoughts and explanations, but the first round of 32 players and your gonna tell me Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow are not in it? but Clausen and Bradford are. Even Toby Gerhart should be first round. As far as the 15 close but no cigar guys, still no Tim Tebow or Colt McCoy?
Come on man you know that If the Vikings do not Take Tim Tebow, then the Jaguars will draft him first round just because he can actually get a lot of fans to pay to go to one of their games. They can't get anyone to come to a game and a local super star like Tebow can bring the fans and Gator Nation to the games.
As a Green Bay Packer fan I think you missed the mark completely. Ryan Grant may have not been a high draft but he was 7th in the NFL in rushing (on a passing team) and had the same YPC average as Adrian Peterson. I look for either a OT or a DB who is a stud kick returner.
I THINK FOR THE MOST PART THIS IS SPOT ON BUT I'M PRETTY SURE THE GIANTS WILL PICK MAYS AND THE EGLE WILL GET A LINEBACKER I THINK THATS THE ONLY SPOT THEY ARE WEAK, THIS IS ONLY ALL CAPS BECAUSE I DISNT REALIZE I HAD CAPS LOCK ON
im a dolphins fan and i know we dont need to take a definsive end in the first roud we need to take a nose tackle or reciver or line backer and we dont need a gaurd in the second round. we should just pick up rolando mclain or terrance cody first round then in the 2nd get jordan shipley golden tate or marty gilliard.
Pierre-Paul will be an outside linebacker in the NFL.
Suh is going to be a great player but the last time a DT was taken first overall was '94 (Dan Wilkinson). I don't think it is a bad pick. I just don't think history supports it. Also, my beloved Jags gave up their second rounder for this year last year to the Patriots for a corner. They can't draft another one this year in the first round without serious heads rolling. Good mock.
Broncos don't need an ILB. We got pro bowl (alternate) DJ Williams who always leads our team in tackling, and Andre Davis who is one of our leader on D. We could use depth but I wouldn't waist #10 pick on depth. I like Dez Bryant if hes there, he would be a perfect fit and only replacement if we get rid of B-Marsh. Even if we keep Marshall. The duo would be insane! but he probably wont be there. I think if we draft Pike, McD will turn him into a star. We also need help in our run D, but I don't know if the talent will be there. Just my opinion. nice draft overall though. can't wait till the draft!
Well done, completely agree with Davis, Baluga and Spiller going early. You are ahead of the mock draft curve with those three. Also, GB definitely needs of one those versatile scat backs like Best. Wish we could get Spiller though. No chance.
THE REDSKINS AT BEST ARE A 8-8 TEAM NEXT YEAR EVEN WITH SHANAHAN IN CHARGE. THEY SHOULD TRADE THEIR PICK THIS YEAR FOR ATLEAST 2 SEASONED OFFENSIVE LINEMAN BECUASE WITH MINOR ADJUSTMENTS IN THE SECONDARY THE DEFENSE IS GREAT AND SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE RETOOLED FOR 2 OR 3 YEARS AND NEXT YEARS DRAFT PICK WOULD ALLOW THEM TO DRAFT A QB LIKE LOCKER FROM WASHINGTON. DRAFTING A QB LIKE CLAUSEN WOULD BE A HUGE MISTAKE BY SHANAHAN AND THE LONG END TO HIS COACHING CAREER WITH SNYDER STANDING THERE WITH A SHARP AXE.
The Jaguars drafted a pair of tackles Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton and didn't take a corner until the 3rd round in the 2009 NFL Draft. The year before they took Reggie Nelson but he hasn't really panned out, he (Nelson's) best position is at safety anyway.
why dosent anyone think that the dolphins should use there first round pick to draft a reciver
the browns won't draft dez bryant! They need a cornerback or QB. It's probaly gonna be someone thats gonna bring more fans. Joe Haden or Superman Tim Tebow
Won't quibble with your Texans choice. He's a fine safety and a need position. But I gotta say if Miami and Pittsburgh both pass on Iupati, language barrier and all, that's the Texans pick at twenty. We'll see what he does in the drills at Indi. The Texan's backs didn't suddenly suck.....after Pitts and Brisiel went down there just weren't any holes. Iupati next to Winston just seems like a round peg in the round hole.
if the redskins take a qb they are retarded!...they need a OL bcuz cambell is good he just got beat up this season...and if u dont beleive me go look at his highlights in the 2008 season for every game... he didnt get picked off by week 6 by ED REED!off a batted pass...hes not the problem! he needs pass protection!
I csnt fully agree with the rams tsking a DT they need a QB. The jags come on we all know Tebow is there guy. How ever i do agree with seatle taking a QB and A RB in the first and Finally someone else agreeing with the fact Dallas needs offencie linemen. This all makes sence i could see the rest working out but however i dont know if the rams could pass up on suh but i still think they need a QB more.
NOOOOOOO way are the vikings going to get a CB they are going to get a quarterback do to Favre being 40 stinkin years old. and most likely it will probably be Colt Mccoy because he has amazing accuracy and the vikings need an accurate QB T-Jack and Rosenfels are just not going to cut it
Over all, a decent mock draft...However, I don't see the Browns taking Dez Bryant that high. No way. If they really want to persue a top receiver they can trade down like last year or wait till rd 2. Why take a WR like Bryant that early when you can get a comparable receiver early in round 2. Possible WR may be Lafell or Benn. WR is not a huge need this year among the league and this year's wr class is strong. In the 7 spot with no trade I would definitely look at a DB or DE. Probably Haden will be chosen unless Berry miraculously falls.
I would bet anything Dunlap gets taken higher, shocked if he isn't in the top 10-15 picks.
I have to agree with other Packer fans posting the same thing. No way the Packers take a RB in round 1. I can't fathom how you came to this conclusion. You must not watch this team. Grant is coming off a productive, injury free season, and he got stronger as the year went on.
OL and the secondary are serious needs, and they'll find a comparable player at 23 that is a value pick AND fills a position of need. You only need to look back to last year when they took Raji and Matthews in Rd 1. Two value picks, both positions of need for the Pack. I'd suggest revising your mock.
Are you folks serious? Not only did you leave Gator QB Tim Tebow out of your first round but you don't even think highly enough of him to include him in your top 15 that didn't make your first round, do you guys even follow college football or do you just make your selections by picking name out of a hat?
eagles should get brandon spikes cuz they r short at linebackers then second round get a qb if mcnabb gets fired like tony pike, colt mccoy, or tim tebow if he is still there then in 3 round get toby genheart cuz westbrook is getting old or get matt hardesty
No way Steelers take Cody, Tomlin doesn't like lazy players with a weight problem (a la Casey Hampton).
If the draft unfolded this way, Iupati or maybe Earl Thomas would be the pick.
good one. you had the pats taking LB Jerry Hughes. But i think a good fit would be Carlos Dunlap. they clearly need an upgrade at the D line and he looks to be a good one. i say they take him a little higher at # 22
Good overall mock draft. Im a Colts fan and im starting to think we should start looking for a qb to have inplace after Peyton leaves although that wont be until a long time down the road. Curtis painter doesnt satisfy me. I also think that Morgan, the DE from Georgia Tech should be alot higher than what he is. with his combination of size, speed, and leverage he is definately a top 10 pick in my opinion. im Stillnot that sure on Jimmy Clausen going that high especially above Sam Bradford. I thknk that Colt McCoy should be alot high on this list. he is the smartest qb in my opinion. Also as a colts fan i think that wwe shud luk at a run stopper within our front seven. i think we trade up to get terrance COdy the bigg DT from Alabama to help our run_defense and den maybe in the later round we draft a OL that can open up hoel for our Horrendus running game
I'm a huge Seahawks fan and although the names Bradford and Spiller are "sexy names". We need o-line help to block for these guys. So unless we get alot of help in free agency on the o-line I would go defense or o-line in the 1st rnd.
As a packer fan, when I first saw Jahvid Best as the pick I laughed... but after thinking about it, now I love the pick. He reminds me of a reggie bush type but better suited for the NFL and could really help on 3rd downs and kick/punt returning which is a huge area of need. I just don't see it being the pick unless all the top rated OT are taken though.... If there was a way to get a top OT and Jahvid Best it would be awesome but highly unlikely. Corner is also another need, but I don't like the corners in this draft.
Another Packer fan here. Packers do need some RB help behind Grant, but I don't think Best is value at this slot. My guess is, given the players available in your draft, my guess is that Campbell would be their choice here. Either that or a trade-down if USC' Charles Brown continues to fall in scouts' eyes. If Thompson thinks Brown will be available in the early 2nd, I wouldn't be surprised to see him grab an extra pick or two if someone sees someone they want still on the board.
Colt Mccoy is betterr than most people think. texas would of won it all if he had played. same with jordan shipley both are amazing players both should be drafted in 1st round. maybe jordan and colt early second but not jake locker. look at the last texas first round pick. (brian orakpo) rookie to the PRO BOWL ONLY ROOKIE. thanks 4 listening.
As a Steeler fan I've soured on Cody. He's going to eat his way out of the first round. The Steelers don't take chances in the first round especially at 18. And it's clear McClain won't be around at 18. If Dan Williams proves he can play the nose they'll probably give him a look. Two guys I love in the first who would also fill immediate needs are RG Iupati and FS Thomas.
As good as Jermaine Gresham is the Giants will never select him. They have Kevin Boss and Travis Beckum. Tight end is not a need in the first round for the Giants. Think Linebacker or Defensive tackle.
The Eagles NEED a LB or RB - they aren't taking Taylor Mays there (though there is talk and I can see Pete Carrol taking Mays earlier in the draft trying to vamp up Seattle's D all around). They might even trade up for CJ Spiller. They Need a CJ Spiller to build they're offense around and give them more explosive firepower to complement DeSean JJackson and reboot their entire running game - playoff teams need a running game.
Even if it goes the way you predicted, Draft Dog - they take Sergio Kindle who you have the pick after or Brandon Weatherspoon. They need a LB - they had to bring back Jeremiah Trotter! I don't see them risking a reckless, less good safety like a worse team would/
Good mock.My first round

3.Eric Berry-Tampa Bay

5.Bryan Bulaga-Kansas City
6.Gerald McCoy-Seattle
7.Joe Haden-Clevland
8.Carlos Dunlap-Oakland
9.Jimmmy Clausen-Buffalo
10.Denver.Brian Price-Denver
11.Rolando McClain-Jacksonville

As a Jets fan for the NFL, and an Auburn fan in NCAAF, I could really enjoy having Carlos Dunlap of Florida coming in to Ryan's system with one objective- lay waste to Tom Brady, Chad Henne, and whoever the Bills pick to take over their QB position. Is he instant success? Doubt it. Will he last until pick 29? Doubt it. Is he worth the character risk? Yes. I'm curious to see how this mock draft measures up to what comes out of the commissioner's mouth.
No way the Cards let Brandon, Dunlap, Sapp or Weatherspoon slip passed them !!!!
as a houston fan and an colts fan i agree with both first round picks. yall act like the first round is the only round.
the houston and colts pick sounds good. plus yall acting like there arent any other rounds
I think everyone is crazy thinking that Jimmy Clausen is going to get drafted before Sam Bradford. Sam is a CRAZY GOOD athelete, I have watched a ton of film on him and Jimmy both and Sam has a lot more to offer than Jimmy does, he has a faster release and more accuracy, I could not believe how many times Sam would throw the ball what seemed like 50+ yards in the air and it fell right into the hands of his guy running without having to change positions, stretch for the ball, slow down or anything, he had one point where he had over 10 different players in one game with receptions and most of them had 10+ yards in a single catch. He is an amazing QB and is extremely athletic more so than most give him credit for. I believe if they train him to fall properly so he does not injure his shoulders he will be a dominating QB.
Florida had one of the top Defenses in the nation and in the National Championship game Bradford moved the ball very well, until the red zone where they OC seemed to call some rediculous plays that stopped them, including going for it on just about every fourth and goal.
Jimmy Clausen will be a good QB with little question, but Bradford has better size, a better arm, better accuracy, a faster release and is way smarter than Jimmy.
If anyone takes Jimmy over Bradford, I will laugh when the team that takes Bradford gets to the playoffs first.
My Ideal situtation would be for Minnesota to get Brett Farve Back, Trade their 1st, 2011 2nd round pick (And if necessary their 6th or 7th 2010 pick[not both]) to jump up and grab Bradford and have Bradford learn from Farve for year, while playing parts of the 4th quarters of games they have the game in hand before the pull the main starters.
I would love to see the 49ers grab Jimmy Clausen and trade Alex Smith away also, in my ideal situation, even though Alex Smith did show some signs of finally getting it. At least he did not turn out to be as bad as Ryan Leaf, he sure seemed to be heading there though without the off the feild issues of course.
Giants will not select at TE. Drafted Beckham last season, have Boss and used most of their picks on offense last season. With issues at DT, MLB, S and lack of depth at G, the Giants will not be going TE.
I dont believe that the vikings will draft a CB when Brett Favre is retiring and they are lacking raw talent in their QB depth chart. The smartest pick would be to get a QB that can get a feel for the NFL so that they dont just rely on Adrian Peterson. He is great but not experienced enough to carry tthe whole vikings offense.
True I agree the Vikings need a quarterback, but I don't see a QB with good value at the end of the first round. They are better off waiting until round two to address that need.
reevaluate the Chargers pick please because our top priority is not DE or OLB, we need a RB, NT, OT, and a Safety maybe in that order too.
1st DT Cody or Williams, RB Jahvid best or Dwyer
2nd RB anthony Dixon
So the Saints were all set to pick No. 31 ?!?
Sweet...
Were do you have Kyle Wilson on here I think after the Senior Bowl he could be a very good shutdown corner and seriously a running back? There is no way the Packers are going to pick a running back I could see an offensive tackle, Taylor Mays, a shutdown corner, or even maybe as a stretch a cover linebacker
This is actually a really good draft, except for three picks that make no sense. #1. The Giants already have a good tight end with good hands and excellent blocking skills, so I doubt they take another in the first. Either a linebacker or safety is first priority. #2. The Chargers have Phillips and English returning with Merriman likely to return because of uncapped season, why take yet another olb in the first? RB and OL are first priority. #3. The Steelers do need help at DL, but since they drafted E.Hood last year and DB is the only major hole on the team. Whichever safety is left when they pick, consider him the next playmaker on their vaunted defense.
ok, i think the rams are gonna snatch Clausen in the first round. They need a quarterback with a strong arm and Clausen has just that.
The Browns do not have a frachise quarterback and the right side of the O line is porous. Drafting WR sounds like something the MM regime in Detriot would do.
They need a shut down corner or safety.
In other words unless you have your QB locked down why draft a WR that has not one to throw to him?
i like it..... and as a pats fan i definately agree they need help at linebacker after losing tedy bruschi and mike vrabel, a fresh young new linebacker would be nice
Steve, Niner fan. I do not agree with your assessment that the niners can pick up a right tackle in rounds 2-6. The niners running game is based on people movers, so they will go with Bulaga or Trent Williams with the 13th pick and then go for either Texas' Thomas (S) or Michigan's Warren (CB). They can pick up a pass rusher or a guard in the 2nd and third. Offensive line help is a must. DB help would be appreciated. The niners were 6th in the league in sacks, so they will get some WR speed in the later rounds. Thanks for the mock draft.
im a colts fan and a notre damer.claussen at #4 is crazy.that sounds alot like the experts saying the colts should draft leaf over manning.we know how that turned out.he got alot more help from his receivers than people admit and look at the team.the were predicted to challenge for a national championship and had to win at the end to become bowl eligible.i guess him being quarterback had nothing to do with that.there is some good quarterbacks out there and he isnt #1.i would be interested to see tebow go to miami.
I think you are way off on the Saints first round pick being a left tackle. The Saints have a former first rounder in Jamal Brown that didnt play this whole year due to injury but he will be back, plus his backup Jermon Bushrod is finally on board with other offensive linemen after a few starts this year so in my opinion right or left tackle is completley out of the question in the first round. My guess is O.L.B. or maybe even D.T. but definatley defense....
Great Anaysis, Seems like someone did there homework, this is the best mock draft I have ever seen.
I dont think that the Raiders wil draft a DT that records sacks yet. They need a guy that can stop the run not sack the quarterback.
I WATCHED TOBY GERHART ALL YEAR. HE IS FLAT OUT FIRST ROUND MATERIAL. GREAT HEART, TREMENDOUS COURAGE, 4.55 SPEED, GOOD HANDS. BETTER THAN HALF OF ALL NFL BACKS,IE BETTUS,RIGGINS,J.TAYLOR, M.BARBER.A PUNISHING BACK WHO CAN ACCELERATE WELL. WHAT A BRUTE, LOVE TO SEE 49ERS GET EM.TO APPRENTICE UNDER GORE. ALSO FILLS IN AT FULL OR HBACK.
FROM A 30YR VETERAN FOOTBALL COACH
I agree that you are way off with the saints drafting a tackle. Brown (LT) was a pro bowler last year and stinchcomb (RT) was a pro bowler this year. I believe the saints will waive charles grants (DE) due to underproduction over the past few years and to clear his huge salary from the books. I believe the saints starting CBs are solid and will improve with Jenkin's development over this offseason and next year. To say all this, I think the saints will go with either DE or OLB with the first pick.
A year ago I would have been really happy to see the G-Men get Gresham. This year shows they need Dan Williams or Earl Thomas more (both available according to this mock at 15). I think there are just a few, like half a dozen, players who are predictably going to be Pro Bowler-types. The next 20-25 players are anyone's guess as to who will turn out better, so once the first group is gone, then you draft by position.
